Proof of Ike

As promised, photos of the damage done by Hurricane Ike to our home. Our trees are still standing. Just whipped about and leaves stripped quite a bit. Even our huge cacti on either side of the entry are still standing. (They are almost as tall as the peak of the garage shown below.)

Close up of the roof damage. This is where the water came in. Directly below the roof is the attic (we haven't had the nerve to see what damage is done to it) and directly below the attic is Nathan's bedroom, and the adjacent bathroom. Lots of water damage and sagging ceilings in Nathan's room. Chloe's room which is next to the adjacent bathroom, has damp carpet, so we know some water has seeped between the walls and inter her room, as well.

Below is the backyard. Most of the fence is blown over.
And this is a nice picture of the lake behind our house. Oh wait, that's not a lake! That's the retaining pond which is usually dry! The retaining pond has a track around it that is almost a full mile around. And the deepest point, I am guessing is about 5-6 feet. So that's a heck of a lot of water. We are so grateful we have it, or all of that water would have been in all of our homes.

Another lake? No, another retaining pond across the street from the other one. This one is even deeper. Probably 8-10 feet.

Well, you can pretend you have a lake in your backyard, right? The kids had a great idea that a plastic bag could be a sail for the wooden gate that Nathan found behind our house. Hmmm, maybe it would help if the gate floated.

Gotta make the best of a bad situation, right?

As an update... our power came back on this evening around 6:30 p.m. Did you all hear us shouting for joy? It was loud. Four days with no electricity is. no. fun.

School starts back tomorrow, Steve has a job interview on Friday, so hopefully things will be getting back to normal.

I'm so glad that all of you are ok and the damage is manageable. 4 days without electricity would be horrible. At least the kids are having fun and making the most out of it.

We felt the effects of Ike way up here. It hit us Sunday morning around 3:30 and knocked our electricity out for about 8 hours. Trees and limbs are down everywhere around here too. Wow, it sure was powerful up here, I can't imagine what it must have felt like there.

Webkinz Visit Sleepyhead

Chloe and I made this slide show one day when Spike was fast asleep. He didn't move a muscle as she placed her Webkinz, one after another, on top of him. Sorry it's a bit slow, it's the fastest I could get it to go. Enjoy!
